The president of Nigeria Association of Nigeria Health Journalist, (ANHEJ) Mallam HASSAN Zaggi has described the death of the former General Secretary of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) Late Comrade (Dr.) Silas Adamu as a tragic one adding that the legacies he left behind will continue to linger in the minds of many inluding the members of the health association.
Mallam Zaggi in his speech during the Association’s condolence visit to the union house in Abuja, described late Silas Adamu as a humble and hardworking man.
“For most of us who have covered MHWUN since its early years, we know the Late Comrade Silas Adamu to be a very humble, humane, hardworking, calm, intelligent, friendly and a detrabalised Nigerian.
Our Association started working closely with the late Comrade Silas Adamu since 2008 when he was the Organizing Secretary of MHWUN and an active member of JOHESU.
‘In our interactions with him over the years, we found the Late Comrade Adamu to be blessed with the gift of proffering solution to challenges as they come up as his contributions to issues raised were always brilliant.
“National President sir, to tell you how deep and close our relationship was with the late Comrade Silas Adamu, he personally sponsored the TV category of the award our Association gave to members who wrote the best human interest stories in 2020 during our Annual Conference last year.
“Also, few weeks before the ugly incident happened, few of the Health Correspondents were invited through the Media Consultant to interview him on his new role as the President of Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA).
According to him, the ideas he brought to the table in an effort to bring lasting peace in the troubled Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State were very innovative and practicable.
“Indeed, Kaduna State has lost a great peace maker.
He therefore prayed God to grant the president, management and entire members of the MHWUN as well as the famil the grace to bear such huge loss.
The ANHEJ president also reiterated the need for a mor renewed and sustained relationship between the MHWUN and ANHEJ adding that such working collaborations will help to serve Nigerians better ‘as far as understanding what you do as health professionals is concerned.
The Association of Nigeria Health Journalists, through the president also, called on the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, begin the implementation of the Emergency Ambulance services on all our major highways in the country as provided for in the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
“This, we believe, will save the lives of hundreds of Nigerians who are accident victims on our highways from untimely deaths.
